In Chinese culture, there’s this ceremony called zhuazhou where a baby is surrounded by various items and set free to grab whatever their heart desires. What they pick is said to determine their path in life.

I grabbed a pen instead of a stethoscope, much to the disappointment of my traditional immigrant parents.

“Say it ain’t so,” they said.

“Maybe she’ll use it to write prescriptions,” they hoped.

But it was too late.

I was doomed to always choose Art as my K-12 extracurricular of choice.

Long story short, that pen turned into the pen tool on Illustrator as I went on to graduate from The University of Texas at Austin with a degree in Advertising under the Texas Creative track.
